The committee are pleased to announce the Apiary Practical Demonstrations and “Bee Shed” days for 2017. These demonstrations are primarily for less experienced beekeepers, and in particular for those who did our Autumn Course in 2016 or before, and haven’t previously attended. Please make every effort to come, as practical experience is essential for your beekeeping.
Demonstrations will take place at the Association Apiary, Carrigrohane Road at 3.00 p.m. each Saturday, but 10 day inspections after May 27th. So the Apiary will be open on 2 Wednesday evenings.
The apiary is in an old walled garden belonging to Richard Wood, is beautifully sheltered and suitable for demonstrations even in marginal conditions, so don’t assume a cancellation – everyone should be on time.
Apiary Location. See our Map.
Or the directions are:
The entrance will be marked by a Traffic Cone on the Carrigrohane Road and is the fifth, (5th), gate beyond the turn for Inchigaggin (Tennis Village) on the left hand side as one drives out from Victoria Cross, or when approaching from Ballincollig this gate is the first on the right after “Anglers Rest Junction” Drive up the lane with care, and as space is relatively limited, please try and car-pool. Everyone will need a Beesuit, Boots and Marigold Black or Yellow Gloves. To avoid cross contamination, it has been decided that Leather Bee Gloves are not acceptable, further those that are demonstrating should not bring Hive Tools or Smokers. When leaving the Apiary, exit onto the road with great care and only turn to the left, in the interest of your own safety!!
