FIBKA Fota Honey show was on the 5/6th October 2013 .
All entries were on the show bench by 12.00 on Saturday and the judging took place Sat afternoon behind closed doors. There was a varied display of honey, light medium and dark honey, granulated and chunk honey, Combs for extraction, sections, beeswax cakes, candles and models, as well as combination classes of comb and honey, sweets & cakes with honey in the recipe and mead and an ornamental display class.
The show was open to the public Sunday afternoon from 14.00 – 16.30 and the prizes in the various classes were awarded by Michael Wolfe and the Honey Queen 2013 Banba Behan from Dublin.
Cork Co beekeepers had a very successful day with a number of firsts and other placements:
- Sean Fogarty won best sections and supreme comb honey
- Bob McCutcheon has a first in the comb honey
- Mary O Riordan got a first in 3 jar honey
- Eleanor Attridge a first in the Ornamental Display class
- Eddie O Sullivan first for his honey cake
- Noel Power got placed in the beeswax cake class
- Denis McCarthy in the photography class
- John Healy in the 6 jar novice class
- Annette Barry placed in the honey cake
